A few years ago, our waste management company asked us to add all organic waste matter to our “green cans”. So, I began throwing my food scraps into a kitchen container until I had enough for a trip to the green can. Later I was observing the buildup and frequently thought they were interesting compositions – and began photographing them. Although many were singularly interesting images, I had the idea that a month of food scraps would be impressive combined together, referring back to a long continuum of previous artworks that were presented in a grid format, enhancing the humor and spoof factors of the project.
The project sat on ice for some time as I didn’t have the capability to correct and adjust the files for assembly, but my friend and master photographer Stephen Baumbach of Palm Springs came to my assistance and produced the final printing of the work. I’m looking forward to submitting it for exhibition in an appropriate venue.
