I became a professional photographer in 1973 and continued working professionally until 2016 when I officially retired. I also was a professor of photography at Palomar College in San Marcos from 1982 until 2006 and retired with Professor Emeritus status.
I have been a visual artist from the time I was first able to hold a drawing implement. For the above mentioned years, the camera became my tool for my artistic expression and a visual diary of my life. Thus in those early years of my career, photography played a major role in the process of understanding and accepting my sexuality and coming out as a gay man. I did not however, want to be labeled as a “gay” photographer, so much of my archive of male nude photographs have never been exhibited or published.
I have always considered myself to be a storyteller. While many of my images might be considered homoerotic and arousing prurient interest they are not pornographic. I’ll leave those interpretations up to the viewer. Certainly they tell the story of my appreciation and attraction to the male body. And that it is a cause to be celebrated.
