The tradition of sending and receiving “Seasons Greetings” cards is, sadly, ending. Now, if you are lucky, you get a social media note that also goes out to friends and followers. Same message, nothing personal.
I have sent seasons greeting cards for over half a century, the bulk of which have been hand-made or designed and produced by me. Early on they were printed photographs in a darkroom, mounted on card stock and signed with a personal note. Recipients collected them for many years.
The cards have transitioned over time through many different phases – snow scenes, leaf falls, graphic text statements, portraits and collages. Recent years cards have become “New Years” greetings. Last year I made cards from chopped up old cards I’d received over the years. Each one – one of a kind and personal.
This year’s greeting was a simple note card with my name imprinted and a hand painted infinity symbol with splashed paint drops, personal greeting on the back. Each, one of a kind.
What will next year’s greeting card look like? Only time will tell….
